Life at Royal Kids

What happens inside the school day

Learning at Royal Kids is organised around the classroom, the club, and the conversation between school and home.

A curriculum with two roots

Teaching follows the British National Curriculum alongside the Nigerian Curriculum, so pupils work through Key Stages 1 and 2 with lessons grounded in both frameworks. The Academics page sets out the programme structure.

Clubs that build confidence

Beyond the timetable, pupils take part in Coding, Ballet, Cookery and Music clubs. These give every child a place to participate and be noticed, supporting the school's emphasis on individualisation.

Parents as partners

Parents are part of school life. A “Tea Time With Parents” session was held on May 24, 2021, where concerns on system improvement and children’s welfare were discussed and addressed. The Parent’s Forum keeps the conversation going between terms.

Royal Kids International School is a primary school in Port Harcourt, River State, established in January 2007. The school asks a simple question of every family who walks through its doors: how will you forge your future? That question shapes its approach to learning, encouraging pupils to see education as the tool that prepares them for lives beyond the classroom. The answer lies in a blend of the British National Curriculum and the Nigerian Curriculum, delivered with a focus on individualisation, participation and connection to wider global networks.

The founder, Mrs. Faith Nene Edeme, holds an advanced degree from the University of Roehampton in the United Kingdom, specialising in leadership in education. That academic background is reflected in how the school is organised and run. Rather than treating teaching as a purely academic exercise, leadership here means building structured environments where children feel secure, respected and known. The result is a purposeful framework for learning that pairs high-quality teaching with the kind of pastoral care that helps young pupils settle, grow and thrive.

Learning at Royal Kids is tailored to the individual child. Lessons are designed around each pupil's stage and ability, so that no learner is left behind and no learner is held back. Teachers use clear, structured plans that span the core subjects, including music and personal, social and health education, equipping children with broad skills rather than narrow facts. Participation is treated as a key principle: pupils are encouraged to take part, ask questions, contribute ideas and develop the confidence to speak for themselves in a supportive setting.

The school describes its mission in terms of building the total child. That phrase covers academic attainment, of course, but it also reaches into responsibility, discipline, independence and kindness. Children are given opportunities to take on responsibility within the school community, to enjoy a range of activities and programmes, and to develop a strong sense of self. Aimed at happy, secure children who understand why they are learning, this wider focus helps pupils develop the resilience and character they will need as they move through school and beyond.

Beyond the taught curriculum, the school places value on participation in extra-curricular activities and on giving pupils visibility within the school community. Music, physical education and personal, social and health education sit alongside the core subjects, helping children find their strengths and interests. The aim is a programme that is both broad and balanced, one in which each child has room to discover what they are good at. For parents, this translates into a school life where the child's talents are visible and supported rather than overlooked.

Admissions at Royal Kids International School follow a straightforward process for families seeking a place for their child, whether enrolling into a class or joining an existing year group. The school's online learning platform supported remote study during the 2020/2021 academic session, allowing pupils to continue their education away from the physical campus. Prospective parents are encouraged to learn more about the school, review the academic calendar and policies, and then begin an enrolment conversation, so that a child's start at Royal Kids is well prepared and thoughtfully planned.
